The old mattanchery bridge (Harbour Bridge) across the
Vembanad Lake the Bridge, which opens its centre piece for the ships to pass
. Bridge was built by the British in the
pre independence period. This bridge is a classic work of the British's engineering
division. The 73-year-old bridge is the oldest steel bridge as well as
lift-span bridge in the country. Although the bridge has been completely closed
to traffic, there is a section of people that wants two-wheelers and
three-wheelers to move along the bridge. The Thoppumpady Bridge that
illuminates a crucial period in India's history continues to sparkle.
